HO Scale
Owner: Michael Shrum
Layout Location: Sonoma,CA
I'm building a layout focusing on the State Belt in San Francisco, with a few blocks of SP on Harrison St (this was the main line before the Bayshore cutoff was built (Before 1904)
Some photos and discussion are on the Trainboard.com.

The plan is now being heavily revised, but I started building anyways.
I live in Sonoma, California (Think Wine and Cheese) I grew up in San Francisco.

Shelf Switching Layout SF Belt
HO Scale - ca.1955
Owner: George Dean
Layout Location: Foster City, CA
Switching Layout of the San Francisco State Belt RR.
Simple modular switching than can give life-long pleasure.
The basic idea: Three 2x4 foot modules connected by bridges to make a 2 x 14.5 foot shelf.
Fits along my garage wall nicely and allows plenty of operation.
A selection of things from the set:

State Belt RR
HO Scale - Era __?
Owner: Bill Kaufman
Layout Location: San Rafael
The State Belt ran for 100 years along piers and into warehouses of the San Francisco waterfront. Bill has taken important elements like a car float, interchange at King St. (where the Giants play today), street running, and switching areas under Telegraph Hill and built them into a 12' x 12' layout using interesting modular techniques.
Operations follow the prototype State Belt with 2 crews each working its own division.
The railroad is totally functional with rudimentary buildings and scenery.
Control is Lenz DCC with wireless throttles.
The State Belt was written up in the April 2007 Railroad Model Craftsman.

Bill's previous layout replaced by the Belt RR was "San Francisco & Colorado" in HO Scale: A Depression era short line on California’s North Coast that has not yet realized it is soon to become hiking trails. Heislers, Climaxes and Shays grind their way from a small coastal port to an interchange with the NWP.
